▏The Five Wonders of Alishan
The Alishan mountain range is one of Taiwan's five major mountain ranges. Alishan itself is not a single mountain but refers to this mountainous area. Since 1912, it has been Taiwan's largest logging site until the late 1960s. After logging by the Japanese and the Nationalist government, the original cypress forest was nearly exhausted. Today, the first and second phases of the giant tree trails preserve nearly 40 red cypress giants, reminding visitors of the past grandeur and sanctity of the sacred woods. Among them, the tallest "Alishan Xianglin Sacred Tree" stands at 45 meters, with a circumference of 12.3 meters and an age of about 2300 years, making it a must-visit spot in Alishan.
▏The Eight Sights of Alishan
Inside the Alishan National Forest Recreation Area, there is a rich ecosystem, including rare plants such as Dipteris conjugata, Selaginella doederleinii, Alishan's ten great contributions, and single-leaf orchid; animals include the Formosan macaque, Mikado pheasant, bush warbler, Alishan robin, and Alishan loach among others, creating a lively atmosphere.
In addition to sacred trees, Alishan also has many other scenic attractions: forest trains, the ethereal Sister Ponds, the magnificent sea of clouds, the beautiful Zhushan sunrise, Shouzhen Temple, Ci Yun Temple for over a century, forestry history sites, and the blooming of various cherry and rhododendron species in spring... Alishan National Forest Recreation Area is an international tourist spot that adequately represents Taiwan's montane cloud forests, welcoming travelers from all over the world to explore Taiwan's rich and beautiful mountainous landscapes.
